Preparing for 2005

Gospel Xpress training

More from the Salvation Army heeded the call of Matt 28:19.

SAWSO provided another three day training on door to door evangelism. It was held at the Good Shepherd Spiritual Center in Antipolo City, Philippines, last November 8-10, 2004.

Sis. Joanne Soberano, a professor in Asian Theological Seminary, led the first part of the seminar which dealt with “Christians as witnesses” which was very enlightening, inspirational and challenging. Once again, we were reminded of the different roles of an evangelist — a preacher, a witness, an ambassador, a community transforming agent and a team player rolled into one. Indeed, as Christians, we should do our part in sharing the gospel to all.

The following day, Bro. Ed Tolosa expounded on “What new believers should know and do”. The lessons centered on the basic needs of a new believer in Christ. For they are like newborn babies crying out for milk and we need to be nursing mothers to them.

Certificate of completion

Bro. Tony presented the certificate of completion to Sis. Baby Cartagena.

The third day was fun-filled, since we had more time to socialize with each other.

Bro.Tony delivered a very strong message that challenged everyone present to do their share of the work delegated to us by our Lord.

It felt good to be part ot this seminar. It felt good to be among the laborers who will reap the plentiful harvest.

“Go ye there-fore and make disciples of all nations, bap-tizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” – Matthew 28:19

”The harvest truly is plentiful but the laborers are few.” – Matthew 9:37

Year-Ender: The King is Coming!

Children

Bro. Pip knew exactly the Lord’s command not to hinder children in coming to Him.

Revelation 22:20, “Yes, I am coming soon!”

We Christians eagerly await the fulfillment of the promise of our Lord. While waiting, let us look back at the previous year.

2004 was a very fruitful year. We are proud to say that a lot more areas were covered by GX. We had several reprints of GX comics because of the increased demand. The Lord paved the way for our workers even to the remote Ifugao province. There’s a great possibility that bible study groups will be established in the area. In Metro-Manila, more and more doors were opened and a lot more hearts were receptive to the gospel. 2004 was also a year when more bible study groups were formed and more outreach programs were organized. Other Christian organizations are now willing to work hand in hand with us to further strengthen their work force.

Cell group

A cell group meeting at Barangay Lusvi- minda ll, Dasmarinas, Cavite.

We Christians should grab this opportunity because now people feel the “NEED.” With all the disasters happening around us, people are turning back to God. GX is right in the middle to guide these people to the right path and is prepared to do the Lord’s command.

What a great year 2004 was for Gospel Xpress! We will forever be thankful to all our friends for their prayers and financial support. We hope this year you will continue to be our partners to make the load lighter. Thanks very much to each of you.

Yes, the Lord is coming soon. How will He find us?

Revelation 22:21, “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen!”

Reports from the Field

Pasay/Cavite/Tanyag – Tess Obo and Malou Tayoni

Reading session

Reading Session: We don’t care what the newspapers and magazines say, we’re gonna read our GX!

Our workers here make sure they always bring copies of GX comics wherever they go. Tess is happy because her husband now joins them in distributing GX comics. They were able to share the gospel to the Baranggay Captain and the officials under him in Baranggay 143, and they all joined the prayer of acceptance. A lending association (GABAY Lending As.) sought their help to share to their employees the good news of salvation. Even though not all were receptive, they thank God for the ones who were open (hearts and homes) and are willing to attend regular bible studies. Praise the Lord for the residents of Baranggay Emmanuel II, in spite of their poverty they still manage to be really happy and full of hope because of their strong faith in God.

Rizal – Connie de Luna, Reggie Adia

Very bad weather prevented them from visiting remote places so they revisited the homes of people who had previously opened their doors to GX. Please pray for the local churches in this area to have good and effective discipleship programs for converts. There are a lot of religious groups here who promise to give financial assistance to whoever will join their group. Since most people here are financially challenged, they give in and take what is offered without really weighing the pros and cons. Let us continue praying that the seed planted in their hearts will continue to grow and that God will touch them so that they will put all their cares and worries in His hands.

Bulacan I and II – Mr. And Mrs. Francis Hernandez, Mr. And Mrs. Pablo Liwanag

Hitch hiking

Hitch Hike: A pastor in Bulacan lent his truck to our worker and new converts so they could reach Catulinan Presbyterian Church fast and safely to worship with other believers.

A basketball court in this area was lent to them so they could use it for Sunday worship. The number of converts continue to grow hence the need for a bigger venue. Francis called on his high school classmates to share with them the gospel. They now attend Sunday worship services. A new believer donated 50 sq. m. lot where a church building could be built. Praise be to God!

Nueva Vizcaya – Eduardo Gonzay

Regular bible studies were established – two groups for children and one group for teen-agers. One experience Eduardo cannot forget was when he shared the gospel to someone who was very ill and had been bedridden for a long time. This person received the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ. A few days later, he died. Now, the family he left behind studies the bible with Eduardo. The same thing happened in Sta. Maria, Ifugao, when he was requested to pray for someone who had rheumatic heart. After receiving Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of his life, that person died peacefully.

Cavite – Nen de Sena

Sis. Nen started a cell group in this area. It aims to help new believers’ Christian growth.

Imus/Dasmarinas, Cavite – Romy Olaes, Liza Destura

They retraced their steps to visit the homes where they distributed GX comics before. They were very happy to see them continue their walk with the Lord. Cell groups have been organized.

This quarter, a total of 688 homes were visited, 472 GX comics were distributed which resulted in 116 converts. Please pray for our follow up work and regular bible study groups as we continue to share the good news of our Lord Jesus Christ.

“For when we brought you the good news, it was not just meaningless chatter to you; no, you listened with great interest. What we told you produced a powerful effect upon you, for the Holy Spirit gave you great and full assurance that what we said was true. And you know how our very lives were further proof to you of the truth of our message. So you became our followers and the Lord’s; for you received our message with joy from the Holy Spirit in spite of the trials and sorrows it brought you.” – 1 Thessalonians 1: 5-6 (The Way-The Living Bible)
